Data is an interpretable representation of information formalized in a manner suited for reinterpretation, often the context of multiple parties. Examples of data include sequences of bits, characters on webpages, and even spreadsheets.
Example Types of Data
Data can represent a wide range of sources, applicable uses, and interpretations. Each type of data may require a unique interpreative approach to accurately communicate the underlying represented information. Examples of the different types of data include the following:
- Research Data
- Observational Data
- Simulation Data
- Analytical Data
- Physical Data
Different types of data have one thing in common-they are raw forms. These are uninterpretted values such as heart beats per minute, stock prices at a given interval, or signals from deep space. A functional synonym of data are “facts” which describes the unopinioned and unbiased nature of data.
